Sleep is essential and good for our health. Generally, all the sleeping positions will fall into one of the four categories; side, back, stomach and mixed or combination sleeper. Sleeping on the stomach is not recommended by most sleep professionals because lying on alters the physic and spine alignment, and a likelihood of increased lower back pain. Worse still, the pressure you apply on your tummy can force minute quantities of stomach acid up your throat, which can be devastating to your gut health.

3) Side Sleeper

This is one of the most common types of sleeping positions. One can either sleep on the left side or the right side depending on which side he is comfortable with. The left side is beneficial due to the arrangement of our internal body organs; thus, they are aligned in the correct position while asleep. There is also better blood flow through the spine; therefore, the brain is healthy.

Moreover, it relieves one from insomnia and improves digestion. Its disadvantage is that it causes more significant strain on pressure points, potential lower back pain. The person also experiences a numb lower arm.

4) Mixed Sleeper

These people sleep on their side, stomach, and back as the name suggests. They are also referred to as combination sleepers. Most people are technically combination sleepers, even if they mostly prefer one specific position over other options. It is also not as comfortable as the body does not get enough rest.

Each sleeping position has upsides and downsides; thus, the best sleeping position for you is the one that gives you the best night’s sleep.
